One Offs Word Power

First this: God created the Heavens and Earth—
all you see, all you don’t see. Earth was a soup of nothingness, a bottomless emptiness, an inky blackness. God’s Spirit brooded like a bird above the watery abyss.
God spoke: “Light!” And light appeared.
God saw that light was good and separated light
from dark. God named the light Day, he named the dark Night. It was evening, it was morning— Day One.

Genesis 1:1-5 The Message (MSG)

God looked over everything he had made;
it was so good, so very good!
It was evening, it was morning—
Day Six.

Genesis 1:31 (MSG)

Words kill, words give life;
they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

Proverbs 18:21 (MSG)

A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech we can ruin the world, turn harmony to chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.

James 3:3-6 (MSG)

Children, do what your parents tell you. This is only right. “Honor your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise attached to it, namely, “so you will live well and have a long life.”
Fathers, don’t frustrate your children with
no-win scenarios. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.

Ephesians 6:1-4 (MSG)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Ephesians 4:29 New International Version (NIV)

Sometimes it’s the words we choose not to
say that speak most loudly about our character.

Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness….
Therefore encourage one another and build each
other up, just as in fact you are doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-5;11 (NIV)

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess,
for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:23-25 (NIV)

About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re
talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Luke 22:59-62 (NIV)
