All I Want for Christmas What the People Wanted

delivered by

Micah 5:2-4 (The Message)

But you, Bethlehem, David’s country, the runt of the litter —
From you will come the leader who will shepherd-rule Israel.
He’ll be no upstart, no pretender. His family tree is ancient
and distinguished. Meanwhile, Israel will be in foster homes
until the birth pangs are over and the child is born, and the
scattered brothers come back home to the family of Israel.
He will stand tall in his shepherd-rule by God’s strength,
centered in the majesty of God-Revealed.
And the people will have a good and safe home,
for the whole world will hold him in respect —
Peacemaker of the world!

Numbers 24:17
Zechariah 9:9

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign:
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,
and will call him Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (NIV)

For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with
justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Acts 1:6 (NIV)

“Lord, are you at this time
going to restore the kingdom of Israel?”

Isaiah 53:3b-8 (The Message)

We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried —
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself, that God was punishing
him for his own failures. But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him — our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way.

And God has piled all our sins,
everything we’ve done wrong, on him, on him.
He was beaten, he was tortured, but he didn’t say a word.
Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered
and like a sheep being sheared, he took it all in silence.
Justice miscarried, and he was led off —
and did anyone really know what was happening?
He died without a thought for his welfare,
beaten bloody for the sins of my people.
