In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.
John 1:1-3 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
Word: Greek [logos]- Logic, Reason, Hebrew [דבר dabar] – The Revelation of God
What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.
John 1:4-5 (NRSV)
LIFE is what Christ brings into the world.
Everything was created through him; nothing — not one thing! — came into being without him. What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out.
John 1:3-5 The Message (MSG)
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.
John 1:6-8 (NRSV)
“You are the light of the world.”
Matthew 5:15 (NRSV)
The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the word did not know him. He came to what was his own, and his own people did not accept him. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God, who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or the the will of man, but of God.
John 1:9-13 (NRSV)
And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 (NRSV)
The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.
John 1:14 (MSG)
…full of grace and truth.
…Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.
John 1:14b (NRSV & MSG)
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12 (NRSV)
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:16-17 (NRSV)
