Coming home, I drove into the wrong house
and collided with a tree that I don’t own.
In my attempt to kill a fly, I ran into a telephone pole.

as I swerved to get out of its way, it hit me.

If we claim that we’re free of sin,
we’re only fooling ourselves.
A claim like that is errant nonsense. One the other hand,
if we admit our sins – make a clean breast of them –
he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself.
He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.
If we claim that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out
contradict God – make a liar out of him.
A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.
Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders
of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil

raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray
for each other so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
