Lessons from the plane The Cost of Checked Baggage

delivered by

Coming home, I drove into the wrong house
and collided with a tree that I don’t own.

In my attempt to kill a fly, I ran into a telephone pole.

The telephone pole approached my car at a rapid speed,
as I swerved to get out of its way, it hit me.

I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my
mother-in-law and drove over the embankment.

Forgiveness is giving up all hope of a better past.  – -Anne Lamont

1 John 1:8-10 (The Message)

If we claim that we’re free of sin,
we’re only fooling ourselves.
A claim like that is errant nonsense. One the other hand,
if we admit our sins – make a clean breast of them –
he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself.
He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.
If we claim that we’ve never sinned, we out-and-out
contradict God – make a liar out of him.
A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.

Romans 3:23

…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

James 5:13-16 (New International Version)

Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray.
Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.
Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders
of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil
in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered
in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will
raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray
for each other so that you may be healed.
The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
What baggage do you need to claim?
Is there some long-checked baggage that you need to deal with?
Are you ready to share it with Jesus?
