Define The Relationship Moment
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus,
and turning to them he said:
“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother,
wife and children, brothers and sisters — yes, even their own life —
such a person cannot be my disciple.
And whoever does not carry their cross
and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Luke 14:25-27 (NIV)
Hate: to dislike something intensely or to have feelings of intense hostility
Luke 14:26
…“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother,
wife and children, brothers and sisters — yes, even their own life —
such a person cannot be my disciple. (NIV)
“If you want to be my disciple, you must hate everyone else

Suppose one of you wants to build a tower.
Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost
to see if you have enough money to complete it?
For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it,
everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying,
‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
Luke 14:28-30 (NIV)
Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king.
Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able
with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him
with twenty thousand? If he is not able, he will send a delegation
while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.
In the same way, those of you who do not give up
everything you have cannot be my disciples.
Luke 14:28-30 (NIV)
As they were walking along the road, a man said to him,
“I will follow you wherever you go.”
Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests,
but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
He said to another man, “Follow me.”
But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury the dead, but you go
and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord;
but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow
and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
Luke 9:57-62 (NIV)
Jesus wants enthusiastic followers, not excuse-ridden fans.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.
Mark 1:17-18 (NIV)
So what about you?
