When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene,
Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise,
they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away
from the entrance of the tomb?”
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
Mark 16:1-4 New International Version (NIV)
’”As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side,
and they were alarmed.
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen!
He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead
of you into Galilee. There you will see him,
just as he told you.’”
Mark 16:5-7 (NIV)
He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Mark 8:31-33 (NIV)
They left that place and passed through Galilee.
Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days
he will rise.” But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.
Mark 9:30-32 (NIV)
Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. “We are going up to Jerusalem,” he said, “and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise.”
Mark 10:32b-34 (NIV)
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:6-8 (NIV)
