Radical Radical Anguish

Psalm 13:1-2 (New Living Translation)

O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand?

WHY ME?

Matthew 5:45b (New International Version)

He [God] causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

Acts 13:22 (NIV)

After removing Saul, he [God] made David their king. God testified concerning him: “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. he will do everything I want him to do.”

Psalm 13:3-4 (NLT)

Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!” Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.

Psalm 13:5-6 (NIV)

But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.

Footprints in the Sand by Mary Stevenson

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could only see one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord, ‘You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me? The Lord replied, ‘The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when I carried you.’
