The sooner you can shift you mindset from perfection and towards progress,
the sooner you’ll start to experience the results you’ve been waiting for.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work
within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Philippians 1:6 | New Living Translation (NLT)

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

Philippians 3:12-14 | (NLT)

4. Try again.

Be perfect, therefore,
as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Matthew 5:48 | New International Version (NIV)

How Can We Be Perfect?

  1. In character: in this life, we can’t be flawless but we can try to be as much like Christ as possible.
  2. In holiness: that’s being devoted to God’s desires rather than our own.
It’s carrying love and mercy into the world.
  3. In maturity: we can’t achieve Christlike character and holy living all at once but we grow into it. Just as we expect different behavior from a toddler, teenager, and adult, so God expects different behavior from us depending on our spiritual development or maturity.
  4. In love: we can seek to love others as God loves us.
